As the sun goes down on Thursday and Sunday evenings in Darwin, the Mindil Night Markets get into gear.

Hundreds of locals and tourists flock to Mindil Beach to enjoy the sunset and a meal of anything from pappadoms to possum meat. After dinner, you can browse the stalls and buy all manner of souvenirs, gifts and other useless items, or simply settle down and enjoy the entertainment. Favourites include Mick’s Whips (Mick Dennigan is Australia’s most famous whipper – he performed at the Sydney Olympics opening ceremony), and the multiple-didgeridoo-playing musician Em Dee.
